One of a kind chopper for chopping out male rows in seed corn HAY & FORAGE HARVESTING Forage Harvesters 14-6-33 FARM SHOW readers might be interested in this one-of-a-kind chopper we build for chopping out male rows in seed corn. It eliminates "volunteer" male ears, creating better growing conditions for the female rows. We originally built it on a custom basis for a big seed company. It worked so well we started selling it to seed corn growers all over the country. The increased airflow and sunlight boosts yields and reduces the total amount of nutrients needed per acre. It also prevents ears from growing, eliminating problems with volunteer corn the next year. Depending on how male rows are positioned, the single-row ground-driven choppers mount either on the back of a tractor (when two rows are together) or on a high-boy tractor (when there's four female rows between each pair of male rows).
