Baled Hay Slicer Catching On Fast HAY & FORAGE HARVESTING Bale Handling (5) 1-5-13 "It improves palatability and virtually eliminates the waste you get with loose or ground hay," says Tom Hirtle, general manager of the H. L. Crose Co., Tulare, Calif,, manufacturer of a portable hay bale slicer that has caught on fast since it was introduced in California several years ago. "Our primary marketing area is still in the California-Nevada-Arizona area but we've recently sold machines all the way from Michigan to Hawaii and from Mexcio to Idaho," Hirtle told FARM SHOW. He points out that the machine can be moved from stack to stack with a minimum of set-up labor. Standard unit is pto-driven and operates with a 60 hp or larger tractor. Stationary engines and electric motor drives are also available. Three different cylinders (7, 9, or 11 blade) are offered to provide coarse or fine cut hay to match your specifications. Standard water spray bar permits addition of moisture to freshly-sliced hay, enhancing the aroma and palatability of the hay. The machine's conveyor is hydrostatically controlled for variable speed in both forward and reverse. Feeds two-wire and three-wire bales at 1 to 5 per minute. Adjustable discharge elevator will clear highest truck or feed wagon. Standard model (2 to 2 1/2 in. cut) sells for $7,700.
