"Chemical Edger" Makes Weed Killing Easy CROPS Weed Control 34-3-33 Wayne Foster wanted to kill weeds along his flowerbeds, gardens and walkways without the danger of spray drifting onto flowers and shrubs. So he built a "chemical edger" that treats weeds by dabbing on a small amount of liquid weed killer in a narrow path. "It works great and reduces the amount of pesticide released into your yard and the environment," says Foster. The unit consists of a 3 1/2ûft. long aluminum shaft with a 4-in. high, 1-in. wide rubber wheel at the bottom end and a handle with trigger on top. A 1-quart plastic bottle attaches to the shaft, with a small rubber hose leading from it down through a plastic fender on top of the wheel. The trigger is wired to an opening mechanism on the bottle that lets chemical flow through the tube. To use it, you just pull the trigger and start rolling the wheel. "The chemical rolls evenly onto the wheel. It works great with Roundup, Weed-B-Gone and any other herbicide," says Foster. "The bottle mounts on a plastic saddle that's attached to the shaft."
