Stabilizer Added To Scotts Plastic Drop-Type Fertilizer
Spreader FERTILIZER APPLICATION Fertilizer Application (58f) 30-1-41 Our Scotts plastic drop-type fertilizer spreader worked good at first, but it soon developed a sag in the middle part of the flow control damper, which caused the material to spread unevenly. I couldn't totally stop the flow with the damper closed. The damper has a 3/4-in. wide cavity that's about 1/2 in. deep. After applying Gorilla glue to all mating surfaces, I installed a 3/4 by 2-in. stabilizing board by using a rubber mallet to tap it in place. A tarp strap placed around the hopper held it tight while the glue dried overnight. A little black paint and it looks like factory material. Now the spreader does a nice, even job.
