Plow-Mounted "Furrow Cracker" TILLAGE EUIPMENT Accessories 22-5-27 "It reduces the number of tillage passes needed to produce a seedbed," says the inventor of a new moldboard plow-mounted "Furrow Cracker" that mounts on the side of the plow where it breaks up clods and levels the seedbed at the same time.
It consists of a steel frame that bolts onto the plow frame and supports a bar that runs the length of the plow. The bar is equipped with a series of bolt-on steel tines that mount at an angle. Hydraulic cylinders are used to raise or lower the bar and to control tine depth which can be varied from 5 to 15 centimeters. The tines cut through the clods and before they have a chance to dry out and harden, aerating the top layer of soil and promoting faster crumbling and better moisture retention. The cutting angle of the tines can be adjusted by loosening a bolt attached to a steel shaft that runs inside the bar. Unit requires about 2 hp per furrow.
