"Stand-Up" Fence Panels FENCING Fence Systems 21-4-20 "Our new self-supporting fence panels are equipped with a pair of steel legs on each side that eliminate the need for posts and al-low the panels to be easily moved around," says Roland Thiessen, Peace Land Fabricating And Supply Ltd., Hythe, Alberta. The 30-ft. long panels are built from 2 7/ 8-in. dia. oilfield pipe and are available with either five (64 in. high) or six (76 in. high) rails. Each panel has four steel "legs" welded onto it - two per side - that bend at a 90 degree angle along the ground and extend out about 3 ft. The panels bolt together with two bolts, either in-line or at a 90 degree angle. Gates can be bolted on between panels, which weigh 1,200 lbs. apiece. "They cost more than conventional fence systems, but in the long run they save you money because you never have to replace rotting wooden posts and because they're so versatile," says Thiessen. "They allow you to start with a basic corral system and easily add to it or change its configuration as you build up your herd. If you go out of the cattle business, the panels will have a higher resale value than conventional fence panels because they're so easy to move. The legs have a 6-ft. wide base which will keep the fence from ever tipping over - it'll slide before it'll tip over." A 30-ft. 5-rail panels sell for $13 per foot; 30-ft. 6-rail panels sell for $15 per foot.
