Six-Ball Twine Box Cuts Baler Downtime HAY & FORAGE HARVESTING Balers (6) 15-2-15 Ben Tschetter, Marwayne, Alberta, got tired of constantly replacing the twine on his Deere 530 round baler. He solved the problem by using 16-ga. sheet metal to build a 6-ball twine box that lets him bale twice as long without stopping to add more twine. The original twine box held three balls and was mounted on the right side of the baler. The new twine box is bolted on front of the baler and is 60 in. long, 12 in. high, and 10 in. deep. Tschetter repositioned the original tension roller just outside the new twine box, using the same brackets. He uses the original twine box as a storage compartment. "It lets me bale twice as long without stopping and has greatly reduced haler downtime," says Tschetter. "The six balls are connected together so they can all be used up before I have to stop. If I wanted I could tie all nine balls together. When the lid is closed the new twine box is practically dustproof. It works great. However, if I could do it over I'd make the box 12 in. deep so I could use plastic twine. The same size box would also fit Deere's 535 baler."
