This new net lets us play anywhere," says Illinois farmer Earl Nauman, of Amboy, who's come up with a lightweight stand-alone net that'll set up anywhere with no need to tie to trees or permanent posts.
The volleyball set consists of two poles and bases that disassemble into three pieces each. The base of each pole is simply eased into the ground by applying foot pressure to one corner of the base and rocking the pole back and forth by hand. Once the poles are inserted, the net is attached.
Set-up takes just 10 min. No tools are required to put it up or take it down and there are no guy wires to endanger players. The poles do no damage to the lawn and the wide design of the posts keeps them from falling below the horizontal, even if you pull down on the net. The poles even set up in sand.
"It's completely portable and weighs only 60 lbs. It can also be used for tennis, badminton and as a temporary clothes line," notes Nauman.
A set of poles sells for $147. Nets and a carrying case are also available.
