Air Blast for Sprayers Cuts Costs Up to 50% SPRAYING New Sprayers 9-2-23 "It can reduce spraying costs up to 50%, says the manufacturer of a new "air blast" system for crop sprayers that forces spray through dense foliage and onto the underside of plant leaves.
Called the Sleeve Boom, it features a pto-driven fan which sends a blast of air through a 28 ft. PVC sleeve on each side. Air forced out of 1-9/16-in. dia. holes (spaced about 2 in. apart) on the underside of the sleeve forces spray droplets down and through dense foliage, all the way to the ground. The spray then bounces back and covers the bottom part of the leaves, explains a spokesman for the Degania Sleeve Boom, developed in Israel.
Can be retrofitted to most existing field sprayers.
