Saddle tank rack swings out for service CROPS Weed Control 14-3-15 When Bruce Chailland got tired of taking off the saddle tanks on his Deere 4640 in order to perform routine service on the tractor, he designed a new mounting system that makes it easy to swing the tanks for-ward for out of the way.
"I plan to build similar mounts for all our tractors because it makes it much simpler to do all minor repairs and service," says the Hollandale, Minn., farmer.
Each of the tanks holds 200 gal. and can be pivoted forward empty or full (at the time of photos, each tank held 175 gal.). You simply pull two pins and swing them out.
Chemical hoses connect in the front so you don't have to unhook them to swing the tanks out. "One man can easily swing both tanks out in a minute or less," says Chailland.
The rack, made out of about $200 of angle iron and tubing, bolts directly to the frame of the tractor. "It's strong. Even with 175 gal. in the tanks they don't sag at all. We've used the tractor on rough, subsoiled ground with no problems at all."
