Fake owl scares pest birds away BIRD CONTROL Bird Control 11-2-35 "It looks like the real thing: Birds are afraid of it," says G.I. Fiddes, distributor of a realistically-styled fake owl designed to keep buildings and feedlots clear of pest birds without the use of traps or poisons.
The lightweight, 1¢-ft. tall hollow plastic mold is designed to fit on the head of a post. Fiddes says that when you first put it out you should move it several times a day so birds don't become accustomed to it. After it's been around for a few days you only have to move it occasionally for it to be effective. It'll work inside buildings or outside around the farmyard or feedlots.
The fake owl was originally designed as a crow decoy. "If you put it in an open field, flocks of crows will attack the owl together. When they do, you just start shooting," notes Fiddes.
The owl sells for $16.95.
