Wide-Track Challenger At Louisville TRACTORS New Tractors 21-2-25 A new "wide-track" version of Caterpillar's Challenger tractor was introduced at the recent National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Ky. The option is available on the Challenger 35, 45, and 55 and allows you to adjust track width from 80 to 120 in. The 120-in. spacing is said to be the widest configuration available from any tractor manufacturer. The extra width allows you to work in row crops without having to use spacers and also reduces the need to readjust track width when switching between primary tillage and row crop work. An-other advantage is that you can space the tracks so that they follow the same path as your grain carts, sprayers, or combine which reduces compaction. The company says the wide stance lets you pull twice as much load around a corner as a 60-in. wide tractor. There's less soil disturbance while turning because the outside track makes a more gradual turn, which also results in less track slip-page. The wide stance improves the tractor's stability and control when pulling and transporting wide, 3-pt. mounted implements and results in a smoother field ride when driving over uneven ground. Also, you have a clear view to the inside of the tracks which makes many row crop tasks easier.
