Blade shredder uses less horsepower STALK CHOPPERS Stalk Choppers 12-1-24 German farmer Franz Jetzinger says his new crop shredder uses less horsepower to shred more crop than conventional flail shredders. Jetzinger's shredder uses horizontally-mounted blades. The 8 L-shaped blades per cutting wheel slice the crop against adjust-able shear plates. "The design requires far less horsepower than conventional flails because the blades slice through crop material rather than busting it up. This machine also handles a larger volume of material so you can run the combine higher when harvesting and shred the taller crop residue with this machine," Jetzinger told FARM SHOW. The lightweight (1,200 lbs.), 10-ft. wide machine mounts on front or back,of tractor. The pto drive can be switched from front to back in minutes without tools. The swinging blades on the 9 cutting wheels can be adjusted into four different position to adapt to the crop and the length of cut desired. Cutters are chain-driven. The self-tightening drive chains can be easily accessed under a top-opening hood. Because the new shredder requires only about a 50-hp. tractor, it can be used together with other equipment pulled on the rear. Jetzinger says he mounts the shredder on the front of his tractor and pulls either a disk or a no-till planter on rear. The new shredder sells for about $4,000.
