Sliding ring bale feeder cuts waste to a minimum HAY & FORAGE HARVESTING Bale Handling (5) 14-6-35 My sliding ring bale feeder cuts waste to a minimum. It always annoyed me to see all the feed our cattle were wasting around the outside of our conventional slant bar bale feeder. After much thought, I came up with the idea of a set of moving bars on the inside of the feeder. Now when I put a bale in the feeder, I set the bars at half width. When the cattle can't reach any more hay, I open the bars to 3/4 width. When the bale is about half gone, I open the feed openings all the way. If they do pull out too much and start wasting it on the ground, the feeder can be closed until they clean up the ground around it. The sliding ring consists of a complete ring of feeding bars spaced about twice as widely as on a normal bale feeder. This ring fits just inside the 7 1/2-ft. dia., 4 ft. high bale feeder with the top rail of the inner ring resting on the upper rail of the bale feeder. The inner ring slides back and forth easily and is held in place with a metal pin. There are three different settings - 1/2, 3/4 and fully opened.
