Constant Velocity Hitch Protects PTO Shaft On Turns HITCHES Hitches 21-1-12 When you make a turn while operating a pto-driven implement, you have to go slow or turn in a wide arc to prevent damage to the pto shaft. Right?
Not so, says Rears Mfg., Eugene, Ore., which makes an "equal angle" flexible driveline that's standard equipment on the company's flail choppers and orchard sprayers. The company says its "constant velocity hitch" allows smooth 90 degree turns under full loads and virtually eliminates stress on U-joints. The hitch hooks up to the lift arms on the tractor's 3-pt. hitch. A pair of cogged steel wheels connect the hitch to the implement drawbar.
The driveline part of the hitch consists of a pair of short pto shafts that connect the driveline on the tractor pto to the implement driveline. The distance between the U-joints remains constant and the angles of the shafts are also contantly equal. The lead pto shaft automatically stays aligned with the tractor's pto shaft, eliminating the stress on U-joints caused by a conventional telescoping pto shaft.
