Back Scratcher/Feeder For Livestock
Wisconsin farmer John Murphy, of Lena, has added a rotating back scratcher attachment to the home-made scratcher/feeder we told you about in FARM SHOW earlier this year (Vol 11, No. 1).

Back Scratcher/Feeder for Livestock LIVESTOCK Miscellaneous 11-5-10 Wisconsin farmer John Murphy, of Lena, has added a rotating back scratcher attachment to the home-made scratcher/feeder we told you about in FARM SHOW earlier this year (Vol 11, No. 1).
The grader tire is bolted to 12-in. square channel iron to each side and mounted on a steel plate platform so it won't tip over. Salt and mineral blocks sit inside the tire, which has a 2-in. hole drilled in the bottom to drain out water.
Murphy's add-on back scratcher consists of two sections of 26 by 20-in. slip-proof flooring connected back to back. The flooring's rough texture "curry-combs" the backs of cattle as they rub against it, says Murphy.
Flooring pieces are fastened to a pipe which allows the back scratcher to swivel 360?. The pipe, in turn, is attached to a bracket bolted to the top of the tire so the back scratcher can pivot up and down.
