New Cab Tipping Centerfold Flatbed TRUCKS Conversions 7-6-16 Farmers crowded around the Landoll truck exhibit at the recent Farm Progress show in Marion, Iowa, to get a look at the company's new Centerfold flatbed for 1 and 1 1/2-ton pickups. As they soon found out, the ingenious folding mechanism that splits the frame and tips up the pickup cab, is worth a look. On the road, a Landoll-equipped truck looks like any other pickup flatbed, except for it's not-so-common all-aluminum construction. But, when it stops to take on a load, it becomes one of the most unusual vehicles around. First, the Landoll hinge ù installed by spritting the truck chassis in half just behind the cab ù is activated. A hydraulic cylinder opens a hinging mechanism that tips both the cab and front of the flatbed up into the air. It tips up about 2 ft., which points the flatbed toward the ground. At this point, a second cylinder under the bed is activated and slides the bed down till it contacts the ground. "The unique loading angle that we get with our hinge drops the flatbed to a low 10? angle. That's 50% lower than the majority of trucks on the market," says Larry Holmes, Landoll representative. "It's great for hauling low-slung equipment." The new truck bed installs on any 1 or 1 1/2-ton pickup and, except for splitting the frame and installing the hinge, doesn't require any major modification of the truck frame. Sells for $6,995. If the truck is sold, the frame can be spliced back to its original length, and the hinge spliced into the new truck's frame.
