Cow Stool is Udder Delight FARM HOME Furniture 14-2-31 People can't help but laugh when they see these Holstein stools built by commercial wood crafters John and Sharron Solinger, Monkton, Vermont.
The Sollingers live on a farm and raise a few head of Holsteins. When their daughter Ellen was 2 she loved to ride the cows so John decided to make her a "rocking Holstein" for Christmas. While building it, he and Sharron got the idea of putting an udder under a stool and the idea took off.
Response at shows to the stool was tremendous and one large cooperative even bought 3,000 of the stools to give as premiums to members.
The legs of each stool are crafted from maple while the tops are made from south-ern poplar. Each stool is shaped by hand on a lathe, and then painted black and white with a red udder.
The copyrighted cow stools come in five different sizes, from the 12-in. tall "milking stool" to the 29-in. tall bar stool. Prices range from $66 to $128. The Sollingers also make "flamingo" and "dalmatian" stools, as well as deluxe snow sleds.
