Artist uses crop to paint picture AG WORLD Ag World 11-2-19 A picture "painted" with sunflowers, soybeans, clover and plowed ground has caught the imaginations of farmers all over the world since late last year when artist Stan Herd first published photos of the scene he created in a Kansas field.
Herd, who says this is the third attempt at field painting, made use of a 20-acre field donated by Sam and Elizabeth Neis, Jr., Eudora, Kan. The picture, as laid out last spring during planting season by Herd, shows three huge flowers in a vase on a checkered tablecloth. It has been featured by national TV networks, National Geographic, the Wall Street Journal, and many other U.S. publications as well as in Europe and South Africa. Herd plans an even more ambitious project next year.
The scene is now available on a 22 by 28-in. full-color poster for $12.50. A higher-quality limited edition poster, signed and numbered by Herd, is also available for $32.50. The Kansas Farm Bureau underwrote production of the poster.
