Both models pull with 5/16 in. dia nylon or polyester rope ù not wire cable. "They pull loads faster and farther than 12 volt powered winches. You can pull loads long distances, or continuously, without over-heating the motor or loss of pulling power. What's more, rope is safer if it breaks and snaps back," the manufacturer points out
"Rope is wrapped around a rotating spool to provide pulling power. You can take up the slack in the winch line, or play out the line, by hand - without running the winch. Pulling power doesn't decrease as the drum fills, as is the case with drum-type winches."
Powered by a 3.5 cu. in. chain saw engine, the winch will pull a 2,5001b. load at 22 ft. per minute. Works with 3.5 cu. in. or smaller chain saws.
Retails for $524 with a 3.0 cu. in. gas engine, and $410 without.
