Do-It-Yourself Bench Doubles As A Table

Do-It-Yourself Bench Doubles As A Table FARM HOME Furniture 4-3-29 Inside or out, as a bench, picnic table or drawing board, you'll find plenty of uses for this new table-bench kit that readily adapts to your specifications and to your choice of wood.
Here's how Kent Woodworth, marketing manager for Taylor Co., Inc., Gloversville, N.Y., describes the new do-it-yourself kit:
"We supply the legs, brackets, screws and plans - the buyer supplies the wood. Using 2 by 4's, 2 by 6's or any comparable dimension wood, you can build a bench up to 8 ft. long.
"The legs and flip-top back brackets are formed from a special polyethelene "structural foam". The legs come in basic white or can be painted. Special paints are needed, however, to adhere to the smooth surface."
Woodworth says the most popular way to finish the kit is using all 2 by 4's - three on the bench seat, four on the flip-top and two as leg braces. Boards can be stained or varnished as needed, and quickly screwed to the table with 44 screws provided.
The table locks into the "up" position with a quick-release latch. Put two together and you have a standard-size picnic table.
Each leg assembly weighs 9 lbs. and a set of two sells for $39.
