Rig Chops Big Square Bale In 15 Seconds FARM HOME Food 20-5-32 "We never dreamed this unit would catch on the way it has. We had a couple of units out at area feedlots for testing and when it came time for us to fine-tune them, the farmers didn't want to give them back," says James Vandervalk about his company's new square bale processor. "It'll chop an entire big square bale for bedding, bunk feeding, stock-piling, or windrowing in as little as 15 seconds," Vandervalk, of FalCan Industries Ltd., says. "One man can bed an entire feedlot in a morning." The "Boss" is designed for 4 by 4 by 8-ft. square bales. The processor, which rides on two 15-in. tires, is fited with two 5-ft. forks on back that load the bale onto the bed. A push-gate pushes the bale through a flail tube equipped with thirty six 6 by 2-in. flails. Flails are spaced to run through knives that can be adjusted to chop hay or straw to a uniform, ideal length of 3 in. or finer. A deflector shield on the side permits bunk feeding, stockpiling or windrowing in the down position or you can use it to distribute material up to 50 ft. in its up position. The processor requires at least a 60 hp tractor and can carry a second bale on the forks while processing. Sells for $13,900 (Canadian).
