New-Style Ladder Jacks FARM HOME Miscellaneous 8-3-31 Here's a simple and easy way to put a walkboard between two ladders for painting or doing other work on buildings.
"Compact Ladder Jacks," designed by Earl Bell, Iola, Kan., are small enough to carry in a toolbox, can be installed or removed quickly and, since the jacks mount off to the side of the ladder, you don't have to climb over the walkboard when climbing the ladder. Extension ladders can be raised or lowered without having to first remove the jacks.
Each jack is made from a piece of square tubing, 18 in. long, with a notch in one end that fits around square and round ladder rungs. The other end of the jack has a support chain fastened to it that extends up and fastens around a higher ladder rung.
The jacks holds boards up to 12 in. wide, and weight up to 375 lbs. They retail for $25.95 a pair.
