New Acreage Counter Is Simple & Inexpensive CROPS New Techniques 8-3-15 You'll like the price tag on the new "no frills" acreage counter from B & L Mfg., Winnebego, Minn. Priced at only $95, it's a simple, low-cost alternative to fancier electronic counters that give you a number of other read-outs but also cost a lot more. The new EC-200 operates off a ground-driven shaft, translating each revolution into a proportion of an acre and feeding the information into a special calculator. A spokesman says it "works great" on tractors, planters, combines, sprayers and other implements for verifying -- in exact acres covered -- application rates of herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, or the exact number of acres covered each round with your planter, combine or other implements. The counter includes a magnet, to be strapped to a rotating shaft with a hose clamp, and a sensor, also secured to the implement, which records each revolution of the magnet. The calculator can be left on the implement or connected via a 20 ft. cord to the tractor. If you'd like counters on other implements, you can buy additional sensors but still use the one calculator, punching in the different factor for each implement.
