No-Till Opener For Hoe Drills DRILLS Drills (42C) 19-5-13 New double disc opener for Deere and International hoe drills does the work of a coulter, row cleaner, and zone tiller in a single unit, converting a conventional hoe drill to no-till or reduced tillage, says Consertil, Inc., Witten, S. Dak.
"Converting an existing hoe drill costs only a fraction as much as a new no-till drill," says Bill Ferguson.
The new opener simply replaces the existing shovels. The discs are angled, forcing residue away from the seed zone. The lead disc cuts through residue like a no-till coulter. The opener's notched discs aggressively work the soil in the row for better seed-to-soil contact.
"The heavy duty notched discs keep turning where lighter, smooth discs will slide, allowing you to plant in wetter or rougher or higher residue conditions than conventional shovels. The opener throws less soil than a conventional shovel, allowing you to plant up to 50% faster," says Ferguson.
