"They make a great name tag for identifying your farm or ranch," says John Feist, of Great Bend. "They're unusual, attractive, and easy to spot and read."
John makes the markers out of old lime-stone rock fence posts measuring 5-1/2 to 6 ft. long and 9 by 12 in. square. The rock is soft, allowing letters and symbols to be hand carved with a hammer and chisel. After carving out the letters, John paints the background ù usually in a color to match the color of the customer's farm or ranch home.
The personalized markers can be carved for either horizontal or vertical display. Lettering can be embellished with brands, animal silhouettes and other adornments. Base cost (lettering only) is $200 for horizontal markers, $175 for vertical markers.
"Word of mouth has been my best advertising," says John. "Many outstate customers call in their order, then swing by when on business or vacation to pick up a personalized limestone marker for their farm or ranch."
