Look--A Feed Bin Made From Fabric LIVESTOCK Feeding Equipment 8-1-3 "It's the first and only feed bin of its kind in the U.S.A.," says Ken Schafer, owner of Highcroft Farm Supply, LeSueur, Minn., about his company's revolutionary hopper-bottom feed bin made from a special tent-like fabric. The high-strength fabric is plastic coated for long wear, and for resistance to rust and corrosion. Schafer notes that, if feed hangs up in the soft-sided bin, all you need do is punch the bag to get the material to fall. "Another advantage is ability of the fabric material to insulate, maintaining a small temperature difference between the inside and outside of the bin. There aren't any more freezing problems with this new fabric bin than with conventional bins," says Schafer. It's available in two sizes. A 100 cubic ft., 4 ton capacity model holds 4 tons of premix or concentrate at an 80 lb. density. Supported by a pipe frame, it stands 10 ft., 5 in. tall, is 5 ft. in dia. and sells for $1,090. The larger model has a 200 cu. ft., 4 ton capacity for storing meal and ground feed at a 40 lb. density. It stands 15 ft. tall, is 5 ft. in dia. and sells for $1,290. Both models have fiberglass roofs, and discharge boots adaptable to augers or slide gates.
