New Trash Passer Cultivator Brackets

New trash passer cultivator brackets CULTIVATORS Cultivators (58C) 12-3-11 If you've ever had problems with trash plugging up your cultivator, you might want to try rearranging the shovel placement by installing bolt-on "Trash Passer" brackets from Lee Equipment Co., George, Iowa.
The brackets replace the tubes (2 per row) which carry the standards and shovels, moving them back so that trash can work its way through instead of plugging up between shovels.
"The brackets work on most conventional cultivators with adjustable square or rectangular tube-mounted Danish tine or leaf spring standards. They aren't designed for the new no-till style cultivators," says Stan Heronemus, inventor-manufacturer. "But few conventional cultivators have shovels spaced for good trash flow on minimum till or no-till crops.
"The problem is that on older conventional cultivators, and some of the new ones, there are 2 center shovels on each cultivator gang which are almost directly across from each other and only 10 to 12 in. apart. These shovels tend to rake everything up," ex-plains Heronemus, who makes 7 different styles of brackets.
"Clamping an L-shaped bracket to the cultivator gang moves the center shovel back about 7 in., making it easier for trash to pass through. Of course, this shovel is now closer to the rear shovel. To move the rear shovel back 7 in., a straight bracket is used. "Some cultivators have 3 shanks between 30-in. rows, others have 5 shanks between wider rows. Either way, you'll use 2 brackets per row," explains Heronemus.
The brackets sell for about $15 each. The 2 outside gangs on a cultivator are equipped with only 1 shovel so, on an 8-row cultivator, you'd need to equip 7 gangs, each with 2 brackets, for a total cost of $210.
