It consists of a tripod, with 4-ft. long legs, that straddle the log. An ice-tong type clamp grabs the log. You then raise the tong, and lift the log, with the 4-ton hydraulic jack that sits on the tripod frame. The jack pushes up on an arm connected to the tong via chain.
Log Lifter weighs 50 lbs., is collapsible to fit in the trunk of your car, and has two castor wheels so it's easy to move. It sells for $139, including the jack.
