Seed Tube Extender For Deere Planters PLANTING EQUIPMENT Accessories 5-3-24 "The only problem Deere planters have is that they bounce the seed in dry soil," says Craig Ohlson, who along with partner Vance Hahn, has intorduced a seed tube extension for Max-Emerge corn and soybean planters that, they say, solves the bounce problem.
"Deere's seed tube curves forward at the bottom, between the discs, throwing the seed forward. We cut off that curved part and bolt on our straight tube `nozzle'. It lays the seed right at the bottom of the seed furrow for perfect seed placement," explains Ohlson.
He maintains that "other manufacturers have already gone to straight seed tubes. We think Deere is reluctant to change because they have had so few complaints about the popular Max-Emerge".
To install the extension, simply remove the wheels, scraper and disc blade on the planter. Then, cut off the seed tube with a hack saw, install the extension and drill two 5/16-in. holes to hold it in place. Then reassemble.
The Deere Max-Emerge extension tube sells for $18 a row, or $100 for a 6-row planter.
