Split Wood With Your Tractor Loader TRACTORS Loaders 6-3-21 Now you can split wood with your tractor loader, thanks to Wood-Shark, a first-of-its kind attachment invented by Jim Region, of Plano, Ill. What's more, the low-cost splitter attachment also doubles as a log carrier. And you can also use it to trim trees as high as your loader will reach.
"The beauty of using your tractor loader is that you don't have to buy all the equipment that makes wood splitters so expensive, such as cylinders, pumps, hoses, reservoir, valves, engine, tires and main beam," says Region. "The Wood-Shark attachment installs quickly and easily on most any tractor loader with hydraulic dump bucket, or on similar crawler-type loaders, skid-steer loaders, and even loader-equipped garden or utility tractors."
With the Wood-Shark splitter, you can split logs at a height that doesn't strain your back. It'll scoop under and pick up logs for transport or hold them at just the right height for cutting with your chain saw. And, according to Region, it'll cut trees and branches crosswise up to 6 in. in dia.,making it "great for cutting up smaller firewood or for trimming off tree branches".
Length of cut with the Wood-Shark depends on the size of cylinder on your loader. For example, with a 24-in. cyl. you can split logs of most any diameter up to 24 in. long. Region notes that the attachment is designed for loaders with dual or single cylinder tilt and that the loader bucket can be left on. An optional remote control lever is available for one-man operation of the splitter right alongside the unit.
"The splitter installs in less than two minutes with just two pins. Weighs less than 90 lbs. and, when not in use, will fit under your work bench or in the trunk of even a small car," explains Region.
He's building and selling the Wood-Shark splitter attachment for right at $350. He'd welcome inquiries from interested manufacturers and distributors.
