Hitch Cart Lets Horses pull PTO Drive Equipment LIVESTOCK Horses/Mules 10-3-4 "You can't find horse-drawn equipment anymore," laments Elmo Reed, Benton Kent. With this in mind, he designed and built the world's first horse-drawn 3-pt. hitch and pto unit. Billed as the first new patent for draft horses in 50 years, it enables horse owners to use 3-pt. and pto-driven equipment built for small tractors.
The hitch cart's 3-pt. accepts Cat. 1 tractor equipment. The ground driven pto turns at 540 rpm (traveling at 3 mph) and features two No. 60 chains driven off each wheel. The chains run to a differential. A V-belt connects the differential to a right angle gearbox.
Several dozen small-tractor implements are available commercially (new or used) for mounting on the new horse-drawn hitch cart, including 5-ft. sickle mowers, 4-ft. rotary mowers, manure spreaders and fertilizer spreaders. The 3-pt.'s hydraulic pump can be powered manually or by a 12-V. battery.
The 3-pt. hitch cart sells for $1,495, and the bolt-on pto unit for right at $1,300.
