"If a needed part isn't available and has to be ordered, there's a good chance you can machine it yourself to keep equipment rolling without costly delays."
The multi-purpose machine is capable of machining any small part made of metal, plastic, or wood, according to Heineman. It combines five functions - a lathe, drill press, vertical milling machine, grinder and polisher - into one compact unit. "Even if you've never turned a single part, Machinex 5 will let you create finished items in steel, brass or aluminum on your very first try. You can do cylindrical turning, facing, boring, drilling, reaming and lathe operations."
A detachable headstock/motorl drive unit remounts from the machine bed to a vertical column, allowing drilling and milling operations. The column mount rotates a full 360? to allow operation at any angle.
A complete headstockfmotorldrive unit is available as an accessory so changeover from lathe to drill/mill operations is unnecessary.
"This is the first time that a compact lathe provides so many lathe advantages, including a 5 in. swing over the bed and, depending on the model, 10 or 14 in. between centers," explains Heineman. "It also provides a full 8 in. capacity for vertical drilling and milling operations."
Heineman notes that the position spindle is accurate to .0005 in. Six spindle speeds allow you to work with speeds from 250 to 4,000 rpms. The spindle bore accommodates up to 112 in. collet for accessories.
