Push Button Plumbing FARM HOME Bathroom 4-1-28 The Ultra-Flo Corp., Sandusky, Ohio, has introduced a new-style plumbing system that lets you select hot, warm or cold water at high or low flow rates with the push of a button. Kitchen, bathroom and shower models have additional buttons, as needed, for disposals, drinking water, etc. "Helps reduce water useage, water heating requirements and eliminates faucet drip," says Ultraflo president Gil Didion. "You'll also save with lower installation and maintenance costs. Overall, we figure a 30% savings over other systems." Key to the Ultraflo system is a control valve unit installed adjacent to the hot water heater. Blending of hot with cold water takes place within this unit and a single, 1/4 or 3/8-in. dia. flexible line runs directly from the valve unit to each outlet - sink, tub, shower, and other outlets. The use of flexible copper or plastic tubing cuts soldering and coupling expenses incurred with rigid dualline systems. All connections are made with compression fittings, requiring only a wrench to install. "Great for new houses or when remodeling an older home," points out Didion. "When remodeling, it's the only available system that completely bypasses old piping with flexible lines that are easy to push through old walls and floors where new, rigid piping would be either impossible or prohibitively expensive to install." Push buttons operate off a non hazardous 12-volts (or less); all switches are insulated and Waterproofed. It is UL approved. "Costs generally run 15% below to 5% above conventional installations," says Didion. Cost for a valve unit and controls for one bathroom and a kitchen, minus water lines, is less than $500.
