Bake Bread With Home-Ground Grain GRAIN HANDLING Miscellaneous 5-3-26 The smell and taste of fresh, home-baked bread ù made from your own home-grown grain ù can be a regular treat in your home with help from a new countertop electric grain mill called the Magic Mill II. With it, you can bake your own whole grain bread for as little as 32 cents a lb., according to the manufacturer.
The Magic Mill produces nearly a pound of fine-ground flour a minute through a unique process called micronizing. Essentially, the grains are "exploded" into uniform particle sizes. A dial controls the air flow through the machine which in turn regulates flour texture.
Nearly any grain, including wheat, rye, barley, corn and rice can be turned into tasty, nutritious flour for bread or pastry. You can even make your own cracked whole grain cereal.
The Magic Mill II weighs 8 lbs. and is about the size of a large toaster. The milling chamber is self-cleaning and the stainless steel flour pan and impact-resistant plastic hopper require just a wipe with a damp cloth. Retails for $279.50.
