Weed Trimmer Add-On Cuts Brush, Small Trees
When 84-year-old Walter Schnacke came up with an idea for a new brush-trimming head to fit hand-held weed trimmers, he set right to work evaluating the market and figuring out a way to manufacture it. Now, less than a year later, he has production units on the market and he's setting up a chain of dealers nationwide.

Now, less than a year later, he has production units on the market and he's setting up a chain of dealers nationwide.
"You can't believe how well it works. It easily cuts through trees and brush up to 1 in. in dia., and it'll cut through larger stuff if you use it like a saw blade. And yet, if you accidentally hit your boot you won't get hurt because the blades are hinged and pivot back out of the way," the Evansville, Ind., native told FARM SHOW.
The body of the "Magic" brush cutter, as it's called, is cast aluminum. Two hardened-steel, blunt-edged blades are fastened to the sides of the cutter and stick out about an inch. The blades swing freely on their mounting studs. The brush cutter attaches to the head of any clockwise running power unit, such as the Weed Eater or Echo gas-powered engine trimmers. Schnacke says it should be used on a power unit with an automatic clutch and power in the range of 25 to 30 cc and larger. "We're making them to fit most of the popular makes on the market, including right and left-handed threads and metric and standard-threaded units. The guards on some units will have to be modified to adapt to our brush cutter but, in most cases, this is a simple operation that can be done in a home workshop.
"Once installed, it'll cut through brush and tall weeds and, when used on weeds, you can go back over and quickly mulch them into the ground so that you can hardly see where you had been working."
The Magic brush cutter sells for $35.
