Bale Bumper for Pickups HAY & FORAGE HARVESTING Bale Handling (5) 9-4-22 "I didn't like the idea of giving up the back of my pickup to a bale mover, especially since I pull a trailer most of the time," reports Rod Lambirth, Edmond, Oki., designer of the new "Bale Bumper," a two-in-one bumper and round bale mover. It replaces the existing bumper and bolts right to the truck frame. However, unlike any other bumper, it has two hydraulically-powered arms, each powered by its own cylinder, that swing out to grasp onto big round hay bales. A third cylinder rotates the arms up to lift bales weighing as much as 1,800 lbs. onto the truck bed. The arms also telescope out 24 in. for more clearance, and to handle odd-sized bales. A belt-driven hydraulic pump on the engine powers the three cylinders. In the bumper configuration, the Bale Bumper arms are pinned to ensure that towing stresses are absorbed by the truck frame, not the lifting cylinder. Lambirth notes that, with the arms folded in, the bumper is strong enough to tow anything that a regular bumper can handle. The Bale Bumper is equipped with an in-cab and remote control for loading and unrolling bales. Sells for $2,240, without hydraulics.
