Push Mower Great Way To Upgrade Riding Mower FARM HOME Lawn Mowers (31h,38) 20-4-17 When the 36-in. wide deck on Roland Schild's Cub Cadet riding mower wore out, he decided it would be a lot cheaper to find a way to fit the mower with a wider deck than to go out and buy a bigger mower.
So Schild converted a 48-in. deck into a push mower complete with its own engine. Now he can not only get the job done faster, he can also do a better job trimming under evergreens and other low obstacles. Trimming around buildings and trees is easier, too, since visiblity is so much better.
Schild pushes the mower with a frame that runs between the mower deck and frame of the tractor. He mounted a pair of caster wheels on front of the deck and a set of rollers on the back edge.
The tractor runs better because it doesn't have to power the mower, which has a pull-start engine mounted right on top of it.
