This practice is unsanitary and presents a bad image for producers," says Greg Depuydt of Budget Metal Fab., Inc., who's designed a dead animal storage tank to solve the problem.
"It keeps dead animals out of sight and out of the minds of ćneighbors'. These at-tractive tanks are designed so the producer loads from the back and the rendering driver unloads from the front so the foot trafic doesn't even cross. They're equipped with plastic lids and the entire front hinges down for easy unloading. The bottom of the tank is sloped to the unloading side so corpses pull out easily.
"The tank is large enough to accept a full-size sow and there's a drain plug in the bottom for easy cleaning. It's built heavy to last for years," says Depuydt.
