Tilt adjust kit for Deere swathers SWATHERS Swathers 9-4-32 "The Deere 800 swather is a well-built, long-life machine but the table is too steep to do a good job in a heavy crop and the front end runs too slow when culling hay and some types of grains," says George Ekman, Killam, Alb. Ekman designed and is now marketing a kit that lets you adjust the steepness of the swather table. "After installing the kit, the swather throat is large enough to handle a heavy crop of canola (rape) without plugging. The kit also enables you to lay any kind of swath ù from a line swath to a herringbone ù in grain," says Killam. "This past year, after a late fall rain, we were able to combine dry wheat three days before our neighbors due to the fact that we laid the swath with the heads fanned out." For cutting hay, you'd raise the back end of the swather to its original position. For grain, the back end is lowered to lay the swath with the heads fanned out so they dry faster. Two adjusting bolts located by the header hinge pins let you set the tilt. Installation involves welding a 4 by 4-in. sq. tubing frame to the healer and cutting out one ft. of the existing frame. The conversion makes the throat hole 1-ft. higher which not only lets you run the header at a shallower angle but increases throat capacity when the header is in its original position. Ekman also speeds up the cutterbar and canvas gatherers to improve cutting efficiency by installing a different sprocket. Kit sells for $975 (Canadian).
