New Belt Mower Catching On Fast HAY & FORAGE HARVESTING Mowers (38) 2-5-18 "We sold all we could get this year and expect to do just as well next year," says Ruey Ryan, vice president of R. M. Wade and Co., Portland, Or., marketer of the revolutionary Taarup belt mower and conditioner from Denmark.
The mower's cutterbar is a rotating v-belt with 29 attached replaceable knives. Belt speed is 8000 ft./min. and, according to the machine's manufacturer, noiseless and without vibration.
Because of the cutterbar design, the Taarup mower stays close to the ground, leaving a stubble only 1 to 2 in. tall. It has a new linkage design that allows it to swing up and backwards when it hits an obstacle and then turn automatically forward again to working position without any stop.
"We've found it to be especially good in heavy hay conditions," Ryan told FARM SHOW. "Most any mower will get light hay but this mower cuts well under all conditions - light or heavy, standing up or lying down."
The machine's conditioning rotor is located above the cutterbar. Its rubber cushioned fingers deliver the material in an open swath via adjustable deflector plates with the root ends facing upwards. Rotor speed on the conditioner can be adjusted to fit different crop conditions.
According to Ryan, the only maintenance problem has been two or three broken cutterbar belts which he attributes to their having been too tight when sold.
Another distributor. Implement Sales Company Jnc., of Memphis, Tenn., is equally excited about the new belt mower's possibilities. They received their machines late this year but, according to company president C. F. Farmer, are looking forward to good sales next year.
Both Implement Sales and R. M. iVade and Co. are selling the 311 model with a 79 in. cutting width. Retail cost is right at $3,200.
