We stepped on it, dropped it onto a concrete floor from a height of 10 ft., and plunged a lighted bulb into a tank of water. The amazing Lightguard passed every test with flying colors. It features a fluorescent tube completely sealed in a patented, shockabsorbing plastic and rubber housing. Unlike a hot bulb, the light will not break if it comes in contact with cold surfaces, cold liquids, ice or snow. Welding sparks can strike it without harm. It resists the vibration effects of machine mounting. Tight seals permit the light to be used completely submerged in water. "It is the only light known that can be disassembled (to replace the tube) and reassembled without tools or sealants and still retain its shock-resistant and waterproof qualities," the manufacturer points out. Life of the light tube is said to be 10 to 12 times that of incandescent bulbs. It draws approximately 80% less electric power than equivalent incandescent bulbs, according to the manufacturer. An 8 watt extension lamp, equivalent to a 50 watt bulb, sells for $31.88; a 15 watt lamp, equivalent to a 75 watt bulb, sells for $41, including the cord.
