Designed and engineered specifically for smaller operators, it's lower in price and requires lower horsepower and less upkeep, Ralph Zachary, designer and manufacturer, told FARM SHOW.
The Grind-O-Mizer handles loose hay, stacks, big round bales or conventional bales. It's driven by a direct pto - without any gear boxes. The heavy duty flywheel turns at 1000 rpm. In addition to gear boxes, the simple drive eliminates chains and belts. Sidewall baffles assist in feeding hay or other feedstuffs over the riser (which controls the bite taken by the hammers) and into the grinding mechanism.
Ground material is mechanically thrown through a hinged chute either to the side or to the rear. Optional 4 in. discharge chute extension collects material into a storage box, blender, wagon or truck, thus eliminating the need for costly and bulky belt conveyors. The chute swings out of the way for transport.
The tub is driven hydraulically and rotated by a drive roller and a pneumatic tire. Three additional support wheels guide rotation of the tub. Feeding is controlled by rotation of the tub. Single control lever regulates tub speed to match the unit to available tractor horsepower.
Grinds_to various lengths down to a minimum of 314 in. with only 2 easy adjustments, and without the trouble and expense of removable screens. Hay is broken, not cut, leaving fluffy, more palatable feed with no sharp edges to injure animals' mouths. Blends less desirable roughage with better quality hay for best utilization of available forage, Zachary points out.
Options include a discharge extension for dumping into a truck, an attachment for grinding ear corn, and an attachment for "on the go" grinding directly into a bunk.
Suggested retail cost is $6,700, plus $100 for the optional ear corn attachment.
