Personalize Your Farm With Barn Lettering LIVESTOCK Buildings 7-3-25 "It's attractive and lets passing motorists know who you are and your farm's specialty ù whether cattle, hogs, horses, seed corn or whatever," says Karl Douglas, of St. Mary's, Ont., who specializes in "barn lettering" for farms and ranches. He stamps letters and animals of all shapes and sizes out of plexiglass. It's imbedded all the way through with whatever color you choose. "The letters will never fade or deteriorate," says Karl. Individual letters are glued to a clear strip of acrylic plexiglass. They're assembled and shipped in 8 ft. sections. You can order your name in all capital letters, caps and lower case, or both. As a rule of thumb, you can get by with 12-in. high letters if the message is to be located within 100 ft. of passing motorists. You'll need 14-in. letters at 200 ft., 16 in. at 400 ft., 18 in. at 800 ft., and 24 in. letters for greater distances. The letters can be ordered in most any color of your choice to match your barn, silo, machine shed or whatever. Cost ranges from $14 each for 12 in. letters, to $23 for 24 in. letters. Cost of the animals, also made of plexiglass in the color of your choice, ranges from about $50 for smaller sizes up to $400 or more for large ones measuring 5 by 12 ft. in size. "The 8 ft. long strips on which the letters are assembled are easily attached to metal or wood buildings," explains Karl. "They remove easily if you're painting the building. If you move to another farm, the lettering is easily taken down for use at the new place."
