“Repurposed” Business Booming MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT Miscellaneous Damon Carson has come a long way since selling his first “repurposed” billboard tarp in 2010 When FARM SHOW first ran a story on his company Repurposed Materials in 2011 he had a Denver warehouse full of insulated roof panels rubber roof membranes rubber conveyor belting and more Conveyor belts were being repurposed as trailer floor liners and livestock fencing while roof membranes became silage covers He also had an e-newsletter with 20 000 subscribers Since then Carson has added warehouses in Chicago Atlanta Dallas and Philadelphia and his newsletter list has grown to 100 000 He recently told FARM SHOW that he is planning to add a branch in Phoenix in the near future In 2017 alone he found second homes for 5 3 million pounds of material that would have otherwise gone to landfills Recent saves include 45 semi-loads of poly insulation that was headed for the trash 275 year-old skylights that didn’t meet snow load codes in Wisconsin and 5 semi loads of steel I-beams plywood and 4 by 6 by 16-ft timbers from a deconstructed year-old ice rink at a Chicago area mall Carson encourages readers of his newsletter to let him know about materials he can repurpose and about ideas for how materials he is selling can be reused He credits his growth to “customer creativity at finding new uses for repurposed items” www repurposedmaterialsinc com; ph 303 321-1471 Jim Ruen Contributing Editor
