New Eagle Sub-Soiler Can Flap Its Wings SUBSOILERS Subsoilers (58n) 8-3-35 Hot off the test plots and due on the market in less than a month is the new Eagle All-Till V-subsoiler.
The All-Till, developed by Eagle Engineering and Manufacturing, Welcome, Minn., is the first subsoiler ever to feature adjustable wings that let you vary shank spacing from 24 to 30 in. Eagle general manager Leon Haala says this feature "gives farmers the ability to adjust the unit to match varying field conditions in all types of crops".
In fields where you want to leave more surface trash, or in wet conditions, you widen the wings out for wider shank spacing. Conversely, to leave less trash on top, you "narrow up" the wings, which also reduces the required tractor horsepower.
The All-Till's wing width is adjusted manually when raised out of the ground or with an optional hydraulic cylinder. It subsoils 20 in. deep and is designed to be a one-pass fall tillage tool, breaking up soil hardpan for better root and moisture penetration.
Key to the success of the All-Till'sadjustable wings are its swiveling shanks that pivot freely on the frame, along with the 20 in. coulters, to adjust to the proper angle for different operating widths. This same pivoting action also lets you turn without lifting the rig out of the soil.
The shanks are spring-loaded to trip over rocks so there are no shear pins to be replaced. They also feature removeable wings (similar to the wings on Eagle's minimum-till plow bottoms featured in FARM .SHOW's Vol. 7, No. 5 issue) that provide additional fracturing of the soil.
Haala says the All-Till requires about 25 hp. per shank to pull. Models with 5, 7, and 9 shanks will be available, equipped with drawbar or Cat. III, 3-pt. hitch.
The 5-shank model will sell for about $6,500.
