One simple solution was to modify his truck to haul extra fuel and a large supply of tools and a few spare parts.
On one side of his 500 bu. dump truck, he mounted a large tool box, and on the other, auxiliary fuel tanks which together hold 100 extra gals. of fuel.
The tool box is big so virtually all the tools needed to service the seeding or harvesting machinery can be carried on the truck.
"During field work, the truck is always nearby. So, if anything happens to the machine or a repair is needed, the tool for the job is right at the truck," Dugela points out. The box is dust and water proof so nothing can seep into it and make things a mess. To get at the tool box, the truck box has to be raised, which makes the unit burglarproof. On the other side of the truck box, two auxiliary fuel tanks are mounted on the box frame. One tank holds 40 gals. and the other 60 gals. "Depending on the field operation, I can carry all diesel fuel, a combination of diesel and gasoline, or all gasoline," says Dugela. To refuel the tractor, combine or swather, all he has to do is open the right valve, lift the box and the fuel flows out "Lifting the box lets the fuel flow much faster and it is easier than cranking the fuel out through a hand pump from a fuel tank sitting in the grain box," explains Dugela.
