Anti-Compaction Device For Big Equipment TRACTORS Traction Devices 8-6-4 It can be used on many types of big, heavy equipment but is especially suited for liquid manure spreaders, says Drakar Engineering, Woodstock, Ont., of its new anti-soil compaction device.
The spiked roller, made by Aerway, attaches behind the rearmost tires. Specially designed spikes or blades perforate soil to a depth of 7 in.
"The blades are angled and oriented to maximize the soil loosening effect and, at the same time, minimize the amount of soil disturbance. This makes it especially suited for alfafa fields and pastures," says Henning Hansen, Drakar engineer. "You eliminate compaction without hurting the crop itself."
A 3 by 8 in. cylinder, operated from the tractor seat, controls depth of the device. The spike roller is spring loaded to bounce over rocks and other obstructions.
Sells for $1,850 (Canadian dollars) per pair, including cylinders and mounting brackets.
