2 200-Acre Park Devoted To Miniature Trains AG WORLD The world’s largest miniature railroad club is Train Mountain in Chiloquin Ore It consists of 2 200 acres of land and celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2012 The club’s 400 members built and now maintain 36 miles of track It’s used for mini locomotives that can weigh more than 3 500 lbs when the tender is fully loaded Weekend meets at Train Mountain can attract 150 enthusiasts or more Most of them haul their gear by trailer or van but a lot of their equipment is stored in special sheds on the property Train Mountain’s facility has all the sights scenes and smells of a real railroad including yards spurs sidings and 21 miles of connector tracks Volunteers have built and maintain more than 100 scale model buildings in small village-type settings and along the tracks The operation is staffed entirely by volunteers who spend several weeks each spring clearing debris and repairing tracks before they can run their trains In 2012 they held a Train Mountain Triennial that had 770 registered participants from around the world More than 270 trains were exhibited including 93 gas 84 electric and 95 steam-powered locomotives They even had foot-powered rail bikes Visitors to Train Mountain are treated to dozens of functioning trains that move an assortment of cargo and passengers on rolling stock through the wooded park which varies in elevation from 4 200 to nearly 4 800 feet The facility is located in south central Oregon between Klamath Falls and Crater Lake National Park Train Mountain is also home to a museum that holds several full size railroad cars including cabooses box cars log cars and specialty pieces of rolling stock such as a rotary snow blower and railway construction equipment Train rides are available on 1 6 miles of track operated by Klamath & Western Railroad on summer Saturdays between Memorial Day and Labor Day The club operating Train Mountain has 7 meets a year where members gather to run and operate their trains Check the Train Mountain website for operating dates Contact: FARM SHOW Followup Train Mountain Railroad 36941 Chiloquin Rd P O Box 438 Chiloquin Ore 97624 ph 541 783-3030; info@tmrr org; www trainmountain org
