Grain Auger Basketball Hoop
Old grain augers work great to support a basketball backboard and hoop, ac-cording to North Dakota farmer Keith Sethen who even took the idea one step further. He used yellow and black paint to cover the auger with the markings of a giraffe and then painted the head of a giraffe - in bright yellow - just above the hoop

He used yellow and black paint to cover the auger with the markings of a giraffe and then painted the head of a giraffe - in bright yellow - just above the hoop on the backboard.
Sethen, who farms near Garrison, says the advantage of using an auger as a basketball hoop support is that you can wheel it around anywhere, as needed. Also, the height of the hoop can be easily changed by raising and lowering the auger. That lets him adjust it upward for his young sons as they grow.
